Troubleshooting trip tracking

Dealing with tracking issues? Look no further! We’ve compiled a list of troubleshooting tips and app usage best practices to help you make sure that the Cardata app is set up for success.

Please go through the entire list, identifying and correcting anything that may be affecting tracking.

One: Is your app updated?

If you haven’t updated your app in a while, it may be the reason you’re experiencing tracking issues.

The most recent app versions are:

iOS: 4.1.1366

Android: 4.1.1374

To check your app version, open the Cardata side menu by tapping the three-line menu icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen. The app version number lives at the bottom of the side menu.

If the number reads anything but the above, please update the app as soon as you can.

Two: Was the app open when trips were missed?

If the app was open and you still missed a trip, it’s possible that the app crashed mid-trip or mid-day. This is an issue that is especially prominent in Android devices.

We’re actively working on resolving this, but in the meantime, we recommend that you open the app at the beginning of each trip.

Three: Are your system settings configured correctly?

Settings configurations are essential to tracking.

If you don’t know whether your settings are configured correctly, you can check by tapping Settings in the side menu, followed by App Settings. If all of your settings display a green checkmark, your settings are configured correctly. If one or more setting displays a red x, your settings are not configured correctly. If that’s the case, visit one of the articles listed below to fix your settings configurations.

Android users: Your phone may show a message stating that Cardata is tracking your trips. This does not guarantee that the app is tracking your trips. Please follow the instructions above to ensure your settings are configured and that the app can track your trips.

Four: Is your schedule set up properly?

Confirm that the tracking schedule is properly set up with your working hours.

It’s not a good idea to set a schedule that covers 24 hours, 7 days a week. Setting an endless schedule, or simply leaving the tracking toggle on, will increase the likelihood of the app turning off in the background. If you have a sporadic schedule and are worried about missed trips, you can set your schedule for most of the day (i.e. 4 am - 11 pm) instead of the entire day.

Five: Is tracking toggled to ‘On’?

The tracking toggle should be green and set to on. If it’s red, tracking is turned off and trips will not be recorded. If it’s orange, you need to update your settings configurations in order for the app to capture your trips.

Even with the toggle set to  ‘On’, the app is not designed to indefinitely run and capture trips without your assistance. A big reason for this is security and app updates, which may result in your device automatically closing the Cardata app. Users need to open the app at least daily to check that everything is working.

Six: Is Bluetooth enabled and are you connected to your car?

Please enable Bluetooth and connect to your vehicle. Alternatively, you can use the manual start/stop feature until bugs are resolved.

Seven: Turn Airplane Mode off and on

Turning airplane mode on and off may solve your tracking issues.

To do this, locate the Airplane Mode button, which is generally found on the menu that appears when you pull down your phone screen. Tap the Airplane Mode button to turn it on, and tap it again to turn it off.
